And forgive us our trespasses,
|
Forgive us our debts... wait a minute! What debts, when we´re ok? After all, we are Christians. Sin?? No...we don´t do that! We keep the 10 commandments...or sort of, don´t we?? NO! What a mess of things we make! Sure, we can twist things around all we want, but seen objectively, things look entirely different. In the Sermon on the Mount we have it all brought before our eyes. We´re not good. Since man turned his back on God, his entire being has been nothing but bad. That´s why God sent Jesus to the earth, to die for our sins. We simply cannot deny the fact that we are sinners. But the sins that so easily beset us can be taken away, when we turn to the Lord Jesus, confess our sins before Him, and receive His forgiveness. It is essential that we always keep this truth before us, which is, in essence, we are bad. But, the sentence doesn´t end there, and goes on to open up an old wound with us...”Forgive that idiot, are you kidding? You know I can´t do that. You don´t know what he did to me!” Yes, it is difficult, but what would happen if Jesus would follow the same line? If Jesus has forgiven me, it is the least I can do to forgive others. |
